Caribbean/Bahamas - Packing List for Lucy Guests

Packing light is always a good idea on sailboats, primarily because of the limited space available. Also, nothing makes a long trip more annoying than schlepping around large overweight baggage. On a trip to the Caribbean/Bahamas, packing light is THE ONLY WAY TO GO. YOU JUST DON'T NEED A LOT OF STUFF! Don't stress about bringing too little, you can always wash clothes and there are stores of all kinds available if you forget something, it's not Siberia.

Our system involves getting a medium duffel bag (see below) and limiting the amount of stuff we bring to what will fit into the bag. If it won't fit into a medium duffel, leave it behind! FASHION AIN'T WHAT IT'S ABOUT! We also tend to bring a small airline shoulder bag for travel - camera, books, passport, etc.

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING DUFFEL BAGS
We ask that you bring only a soft duffel bag for your luggage, as duffels can be rolled up and stored easily on the boat. Roller type luggage is difficult to store and tends to scratch up the woodwork.

This is a soft sided duffel of the type we recommend for trips of 1-2 weeks to the Caribbean. You can use any soft sided duffel of the general dimensions: 28" x 11" x 14".

This (and a small shoulder bag - optional) is all that you need!

RECOMMENDED PACKING LIST - FOR ONE WEEK
Same list for 2 weeks - You just wash your clothes at the end of a week, or along the way - there are a few places to do machine laundry, but hand washing is the easiest

General Travel Tips
1) DON"T FORGET YOUR PASSPORT
2) Bring cash - ATMs are few and far between
3) Be sure to call VISA/MC/AMEX etc. to let them know that you will be traveling out of the country
4) Phone calls from your US cell phone (ATT, Verizon, etc.) can be VERY EXPENSIVE in the Bahamas and Caribean. You can generally get a local SIM card (in the Bahamas for instance) for your phone if your phone is a GSM type and is unlocked. If you need to make a lot of phone calls, look into unlocking your phone before you leave the states and acquiring a SIM card when you arrive.
